Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using VatDB's VAT validation API service ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.

2. Description of Service

VatDB provides a VAT number validation API that allows you to verify EU VAT numbers against official sources including VIES and national databases. The Service includes:

  • Real-time VAT number validation
  • Company information retrieval
  • Validation history and audit logs

3. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Provide accurate and complete registration information
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. API Usage

4.1 Rate Limits

API usage is subject to rate limits based on your subscription plan. Exceeding rate limits may result in temporary service restrictions.

4.2 Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits or security measures
  • Share API keys with unauthorized parties
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization
  • Use automated means to scrape or harvest data beyond normal API usage

5. Pricing and Payment

Subscription fees are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. You agree to provide accurate billing information and authorize us to charge your payment method.

  • Prices are subject to change with 30 days notice
  • Refunds are provided on a case-by-case basis
  • Failed payments may result in service suspension
  • Overage charges apply when exceeding plan limits

6. Service Level Agreement

For paid plans, we commit to 99.9% uptime availability. Service credits may be issued for downtime exceeding this threshold:

  • 99.0% - 99.9% uptime: 10% credit
  • 95.0% - 99.0% uptime: 25% credit
  • Below 95.0% uptime: 50% credit

Credits must be requested within 30 days of the incident.

7. Data Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy, VAT validation results are dependent on the EU VIES database. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of validation results. You should not rely solely on our Service for compliance decisions.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its original content, features, and functionality, is owned by VatDB and is protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or reverse engineer any part of the Service.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, VatDB shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless VatDB and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

Either party may terminate this agreement at any time:

  • You may cancel your subscription through the dashboard or by contacting support
  • We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms
  • Upon termination, your API access will be revoked immediately
  • You may export your data within 30 days of termination

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes via email or through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Tallinn, Estonia.
